It can take many years for a new flower garden to reach full maturity. It is a challenge to evaluate and compare a newly planned flower garden to one that has received attention for several years and has developed into an elaborate floral display. Therefore, we have decided to introduce a Recently Established Flower Garden Competition for those gardens that are just getting started and for gardeners that are still working on developing their own ‘green thumb’.  Flower gardens established in the year 2020, or later are eligible.  Artificial flowers are not acceptable.

Judging will commence after July 23, 2024.
 

Entry deadline – June 30, 2024

Criteria for judging & Scoring:

• Overall appearance and curb appeal   300 points
• Landscaping to provide a suitable background for the gardens such as trees, fences, shrubs, etc.  200 points
• Continuity of blooms provided by shrubs, early and late blooming annuals and perennials  150 points
• Healthy growth of plants and blooms   150 points
• Free from weeds, removal of spent blooms, stems of plants, trimming, etc.  200 points

• Variety of flowers   150 points

• Design or arrangement of planting and harmony of colours  150 points
• Canadian/Provincial Flag displayed  50 points

Total Possible Points:  1350 points
